Some neighbors shovel your walkway when you are out of town — others plow your whole driveway after every massive Vermont snowstorm. This mailbox was a thank-you gift for one of those neighbors.
I built a new post and box setup using Cypress wood, finished with brown exterior polyurethane stain for long-term protection. The post sits 42” high, putting the mailbox at 45” from the ground with 21” between post and road — confirmed to USPS specs by my local delivery driver. A black metal base protects the wood from weed-wacker wear and lifts it just high enough to reduce rot from ground water.

Cypress is an excellent outdoor wood, and this one turned out so solid that a few other neighbors said they might need to “step up their mailbox game.”
